Newcastle Port achieved significant growth beyond the coal export sector in 2018, with an 11 per cent increase in cement handling and a 21 per cent increase in steel and mineral exports.
The ongoing drought impacted wheat exports – which were down 79 per cent while meals and grain also fell sharply.
Coal exports continued to be the major contributor to the port’s trade.
