SUSPECTED TOXIC CANISTAR WASHES UP AT BIRUBI BEACH

A three kilogram canister, suspected to contain a highly toxic poison was washed up south of Birubi beach at around 10:30 this morning.
NSW fire and rescue were notified by national parks and wildlife and a hazmat team were assembled to establish an exclusion zone and remove the container.
It’s believed the contents of the canister could be aluminium phosphide which is potentially fatal if inhaled or ingested.
NSW fire and rescue says should any member of the public come across any more canisters, to report it immediately. Do not try to inspect, open or transport it and ensure you stand well away from it.
