AIRCRAFT EMERGENCY AT NEWCASTLE AIRPORT
Emergency services scrambled to Newcastle Airport at Williamtown when a Virgin Australia plane raised the alarm about a fire warning activation in a cargo hold.
The Boeing 737 was en-route from Brisbane to Sydney when it diverted to Newcastle, landing safely just after 12:30 this afternoon.
In a statement, Virgin Australia said, “Virgin Australia flight VA938 from Brisbane to Sydney has landed safely after diverting to Newcastle Airport this afternoon following the activation of warning light in the cargo hold.”
The landing triggered a large scale response from emergency services, including Fire & Rescue, Ambulance, RFS, SES, alongside fire crews from the RAAF.
