45 DEATHS ON NORTHERN NSW ROADS PROMPTS POLICE OPERATION
45 lives have been lost on northern New South Wales so far roads this year.
In an effort to prevent further fatalities, police will be targeting poor driving on rural roads, including speeding, drink and drug-driving, using mobile phones and fatigue.
They’ll be launching Operation Chrome this weekend, with a heightened police presence in the region on Friday and Saturday.
“If you are on the road and doing something wrong, you can expect to be stopped by police in an unmarked car, general duties police, or one of our highway patrol officers,” Assistant Commissioner Mitchell said.
“Our main aim is to stop fatal crashes before they happen. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. If everyone takes personal responsibility for their actions, it will save lives. It’s that simple,” he said.
