TRAIL DATE SET FOR DEAN CORDNER

Dane Cordner, the brother of the Australian rugby league captain Boyd, will stand trial in August, accused of assaulting Knights forward Jacob Saifiti at a Newcastle pub last year.

The matter will be heard in Newcastle Local Court, and is scheduled to run over four days.

However, the defense is expected to apply to have it extended, arguing more time is needed to examine CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts.

Cordner did not appear in court today.
