TRUCKIES FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS

Truck drivers from three states met in Tamworth today to protest against laws they say will destroy the industry.
The independent Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal introduced rules this month preventing owner-operator freight services from taking return loads home.
It means that travelling back to their base from an interstate journey is a costly exercise, that will see them forced to shut down.
“We feed the agricultural, dairy, beef growers on the coast. The season’s been good for them, but it hasn’t been good for us, so we’ve had to supplement our income with interstate freight.”
The Coalition will try to disband the RSRT on Tuesday through the Senate.
