An elderly man has died after he was struck by a car in Newcastle overnight.
It’s understood the 89-year-old was attempting to cross Maitland Road at Mayfield at around 5:30 on Thursday evening, when he was struck by a passing car.
The injured man was taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital, where he later died.
The driver, a 50-year-old man, returned a negative breath test result.
