They save the lives of hundreds of people each year and today lifesavers and lifeguards on the Mid North Coast packed away the red and yellow flags – marking the end of the patrol season.
Beachgoers are now being reminded to heed safety messages, look out for each other and know their limits in and out of the water when visiting the beach during the off-season.
The next patrol season begins in September.
