Hosting the Supercars has once again paid off for the Hunter, with the publicity and spectacular vision encouraging the China-Australia Chamber of Commerce to bring a new running race to the region.
The Newcastle Half Marathon on October 6 will offer $10,000 in prizemoney.
Entries are now open for the event, which is expected to have a field of around 3,000 people, including approximately a thousand runners from China.
