KOALA NUMBERS IN FOCUS AT STATE INQUIRY

Habitat loss and the threat of climate change were highlighted today as a state government inquiry into declining koala populations began in Sydney.
It’s feared the species could be extinct by 2050.
Among those making submissions, a Port Stephens group, which indicated numbers in the region are now a quarter of those seen three decades ago.
The inquiry will prepare a report by June.
