SEARCH FOR SECOND RIDER AFTER MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN M1 CRASH
A motorcyclist has been killed in an early morning crash on the M1 Motorway west of Newcastle.
It’s understood the man was one of two riders travelling south between West Wallsend and Ryhope at around 1 o’clock on Wednesday morning, when he fell from his bike.
Moments later, the man was struck by another southbound vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second rider failed to stop.
The driver of the car was taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital for mandatory tests, with police now appealing for the public’s assistance to help locate the second rider.

The motorway was closed for a number of hours following the crash, with traffic returning to normal at around 7:30 this morning.
