“FARMERS NEED INCENTIVE TO STAY”

The National Farmers Federation has urged the federal government to provide financial incentives for struggling farmers to sell up.
The idea of “exit packages” was floated as part of a six-point plan the lobby group presented to the government.
But Tamworth farmer Kevin Tongue says producers need reasons to remain on the land.
Mr Tongue and a coalition of Namoi farmers will travel to Canberra this week, to present their drought management ideas.
