A 39-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly broke into a home and tried to rape a woman near Byron Bay.
Police say the man broke into the Blackwood Crescent in Bangalow at about 4.30am on Sunday morning and entered the room of a 57-year-old woman who was asleep.
It’s alleged the man woke the woman before he attempted to sexually assault her.
The woman was able to run to another room and lock the door before calling out for help.
It’s alleged the accused fled the scene, and was arrested a few hours later following a short foot pursuit.
The man was charged with aggravated break and enter and attempted sexual intercourse without consent, he’ll face Tweed Heads Local Court today.
