TWO CHARGED IN RELATION TO ALLEGED MURDER OF DARREN ROYCE WILLIS
Two men have been charged in relation to the alleged murder of Darren Royce Willis, who was last seen leaving the Imperial Hotel at Bingara in December 2010.
Strike Force Barca was set up following the then 45-year-old’s December 10 disappearance, with officers on Friday executing two search warrants at homes in the Bingara area.
During the operation, two men, aged 48 and 47, were arrested.
They were taken to Moree Police Station, where the older man was charged with murder.
The younger man was charged with concealing a serious offence.
Documentation and electronic devices were also seized.
“Along with local police, the Bingara community has been heavily invested in finding out what happened to Darren, and we’ve received lots of information, which has proven invaluable to our investigation,” said New England Police District Commander, Superintendent Scott Tanner.
Both men are due back in court on Monday.
A $350,000 reward remains in place for information relating to the case, with anyone who has information asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
“While Darren’s family may feel some relief today, the news is somewhat bittersweet because they still haven’t been able to properly lay him to rest,” Supt Tanner said.
