MAN ACCUSED OF SPITTING BLOOD AT POLICE AND TRYING TO FLEE THREE TIMES
A man’s been charged with assaulting police and escaping custody in the state’s north.
At around 6pm on Tuesday, officers responded to reports a man with outstanding warrants was at a Browns Road home at Halfway Creek, around 40 kilometres south-east of Grafton.
Officers found the man hiding under a blanket in a caravan.
When they attempted to arrest him, he struggled and allegedly pushed a senior constable and punched two other officers in the face.
He was taken to Grafton police station and then transferred under police guard to hospital, to receive treatment for a minor injury.
The 22-year-old allegedly attempted to the flee, before kicking and spitting blood at police.
Hospital security helped to restrain him and eventually got him into a police vehicle.
He then attempted to climb onto the roof of the vehicle and was pepper-sprayed.
He’s been charged with escaping police custody, two counts of assaulting an officer and a series of other offences.
