iTUNES GIFT CARD SCAM WARNING

Residents on the Mid North Coast are being reminded to be on the lookout for scammers after a Port Macquarie resident fell victim to one last Friday.
A person claiming to be from Telstra told the victim their computer had been hacked and convinced them to purchase iTune cards to ‘catch the hacker’.
The cards were then held up to a computer allowing the serial codes to be detected.
$1000 was stolen through the scam.
“The key message for this one is that if someone asks you to pay for anything using an iTunes card, it is a scam, legitimate businesses and government do not ask people to pay things using iTunes” – Detective Inspector Kim Fehon, Port Macquarie Police.
