ELDERLY MAN CRITICAL AFTER HEAD ON CRASH AT GUYRA
A 72-year-old man is fighting for life in Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital after a serious crash in the state’s north west on Friday.
Emergency services were called to the New England Highway at Guyra late in the afternoon, after reports a northbound Toyota Hilux had collided head-on with a Mitsubishi Verada.
The impact was enough to flip the Mitsubishi onto its roof, with the elderly driver trapped inside the upturned wreck.
He was eventually cut free and taken to Armidale Hospital in a critical condition, before being flown to Newcastle for further treatment.
The driver of the Hilux, a 23-year-old man was taken to Armidale Hospital having suffered abdominal injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
