FARM INSURANCE SCHEME STILL ON THE TABLE
New South Wales Agriculture Minister Adam Marshall remains confident he can convice the nation’s states to support his farm income protection scheme.
Earlier this year, Mr Marshall pledged 2 million dollars to the National Farmers Federation to investigate a way of allowing landholders to buy into an insurance policy during times of hardship.
Federal Drought Minister David Littleproud brushed off the idea before a summit in Moree yesterday, though Mr Marshall says the Commonwealth government is coming around to the idea.
Insurance schemes for farmers, similar to the one Mr Marshall is pushing, are already established in Canada and Europe.
