A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing another man in the neck around 11:30 last night.
He was arrested near the scene, and taken to Mayfield Police Station for questioning where he was later charged.
The accused was denied bail to face Newcastle Local Court on Saturday the 28th December.
EARLIER
A Newcastle man has died after being stabbed in the neck overnight.
The 50-year-old was found critically injured in the middle of road on Silsoe and Myola Streets in Mayfield at 11:30pm.
He was treated at the scene and rushed to John Hunter Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
Following initial investigations, police arrested a 36-year-old man nearby and are currently questioning him.
Silsoe and Myola Streets are closed as crime scene investigators comb the area.
