SEISMIC TESTING UNDERWAY AT LAKE MACQUARIE
Centennial Coal has started mapping the bottom of Lake Macquarie this afternoon.
The surveying work will help determine the distance between the Myuna Colliery’s workings and the bottom of the lake.
A small vessel was spotted near Eraring at the southern end of the lake today, with on-lookers saying they could hear loud thuds from the seismic testing.
One man told NBN News he’ll be making a complaint to the EPA as the boat was supposed to have an observer out the front of it.
The mining company says the survey will use a low impact, electric pulse to map the lake’s floor.
