JODIE HARRISON PRESELECTED UNOPPOSED

Lake Macquarie Mayor, Jodie Harrison has been preselected unopposed as the ALP candidate for Charlestown.
She says community disillusion with the Liberals should bolster Labor’s chances to win back the seat, held by Liberal Andrew Cornwell.
“There’s been millions of dollars cut from childcare from, schools, in the TAFE system, there’s been rising transport costs,” she said.
Mr Cornwell took the seat of Charlestown in 2011 after a 40-year Labor grip.
However Cr Harrison says her experience as Mayor will give her the edge.
“It’s also given me a good understanding of the way government works and what’s needed at the moment”.
The Local government Act will enable her to see out her mayoral term while possibly serving as a member of parliament.
