GREYHOUND EUTHANASED AFTER GOSFORD RACE
A greyhound has been put down, after suffering injuries described as ‘catastrophic’ during a race meet at Gosford this week.
Sapphire Jan – seen here as number 8, started the race on Tuesday, but did not finish after crashing into several other dogs.
The race continued, but an onsite vet made the difficult decision to euthanise Sapphire Jan, who sustained a compound fracture to the leg.
The incident will be investigated by the welfare watchdog’s Race Injury Review Panel next month.
The Gosford track underwent $750,000 worth of safety improvements in 2018.
Gosford Greyhounds has been approached for comment.
