POLICE MOSTLY PLEASED WITH COMMUNITY RESPONSE TO NEW RESTRICTIONS
Northern region police say they’re pleased with the community’s response to COVID-19 restrictions, and that there’s only a very small number of people causing issues.
Police are increasing their presence at shopping centres.
Authorities are also discouraging all non-essential travel along the coast, particularly when it comes to towns with older populations.
“People need to stay at home; it’s a time for isolation, a time for staying within your local community. Now is not the time to be travelling up the north coast thinking you can enjoy a holiday in Port Macquarie or those type of areas during this pandemic.” – Max Mitchell, Northern Region Assistant Commissioner.
Police can issue fines up to $1, 000 to people flouting isolation and social distancing rules.
