PARAGLIDER TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER CRASHING AT MEREWETHER

A paraglider has been taken to hospital, suffering a serious back injury after stalling on take-off at Newcastle’s Paragliding launch site.

Emergency services were called to Merewether’s Hickson Street lookout at around 1:45pm, after the paraglider stalled his wing and fell five meters out of the air into the scrub below.

The 31-year-old was carried out by Fire and Rescue NSW and taken to John Hunter hospital in a stable condition.

It’s believed he is a former sky-diver and was a beginner paraglider.
