A 16-year-old boy will face Broadmeadow Children’s Court today after allegedly stabbing a teenager in the stomach on a Hunter train.
The boy was arrested on Thursday night after the injured teen got off the train at Victoria Street station, approaching a train guard for help.
Police say the two boys, who are known to each other, were on a train between Beresfield and Maitland at around 7:20pm when they became involved in a verbal argument.
It’s then alleged that one of the boys produced a knife and stabbed the other in the abdomen.
After the injured boy raised the alarm, a train guard locked down the train and called police.
Port Stephens-Hunter Police District officers attended, entered the carriage and arrested the 16-year-old onboard.
He was taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, reckless wounding and having custody of a knife in a public place.
He was refused bail.
The injured boy underwent surgery and remains in a stable condition.
