BARNABY JOYCE RESPONDS AFTER TAMWORTH EXCLUDED FROM UNIVERSITY GRANT
Barnaby Joyce has admitted plans to build a university in Tamworth have stalled, after the city missed out on a share of a $15-million federal government grant.
Nine regional communities are set to benefit from the funding, including Taree.
Mr Joyce claims there’s been a lack of transparency over how much money would be required for the project.
“First of all, we were asked for an amount of money, which we got, and then we were told we needed twice as much as what we asked for. That obviously created a speed hump.”
The Federal Member for New England says he’ll continue to fight for the proposal in parliament.
“Our number of tertiary-educated people in this city is one of the lowest in regional cities in Australia and I’ve got to make sure that I do everything on my part to resolve that.”
