Trains are back up and running across the Hunter Valley rail network this morning following the successful recovery and removal of two bank locomotive engines which derailed.
The trains came off the tracks on Wednesday evening between Ardglen and Kankool.
Recovery work continued over the weekend with two cranes lifting the locomotive engines off the tracks.
The removal of the locomotives required the use of 15 semi-trailers and 12 pieces of earthmoving equipment, it was completed on Saturday morning.
Around 200 metres of the track needed to be repaired and 60 concrete sleepers replaced.
The repairs were finished on Saturday afternoon.
A team of 45 people worked around the clock during the recovery and repair process, with staff spending more than 1750 hours ensuring a swift recovery.
The site continues to be monitored and controlled to ensure the safety of all those involved in ongoing maintenance in the area.
