DISQUALIFIED DRIVER ONE OF TWO MEN CHARGED OVER PURSUIT

Two men – one disqualified from driving for life – have been charged over a pursuit in the Hunter yesterday morning.
Shortly before 10 o’clock, officers tried to pull over a Mitsubishi Magna on Avery Street, Rutherford.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop, police started a pursuit which was later terminated due to safety concerns.
The Mitsubishi later stopped at Weston, and officers say the men inside ran into bushland.
They were later picked up by a woman in a Toyota sedan.
With assistance from PolAir, police tracked down the 38-year-old driver, and an 18-year-old passenger at a home on Teece street.
Both allegedly tried to run away, but were arrested soon after.
It’s further alleged the younger man tried to assault a senior constable during his arrest.
The men were taken to Maitland Police Station.
The 38-year-old, who was disqualified from driving in 2000, was charged with 9 offences.
He was refused bail to appear in Maitland Local Court today.
The 18-year-old was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting an officer in execution of duty.
He’s due to face Maitland Local Court on October 7.
