The Boulevarde has been closed at Winda Woppa, Port Stephens, to make way for emergency sand works.
Several truckloads of sand were brought in today, to help protect the road and nearby homes, after a recent large swell and wild weather.
Tens of thousands of tonnes of sand will be transported in from Monday.
The road remains open to residents.
