$607-MILLION VICKERY COAL MINE EXPANSION GETS THE GREEN LIGHT

Whitehaven Coal has been granted approval to undertake a $607-million expansion of its Vickery coal mine, near Boggabri.

The mining giant lodged the development application in 2018, seeking to increase the mine’s total coal extraction to 168 mega-tonnes.

A public hearing was held last month, featuring 74 registered speakers.

The Independent Planning Commission says the green-light was given subject to strict conditions.
