LAP SWIMMERS REJOICE: SWANSEA AND SPEERS POINT POOLS TO OPEN EARLY
There’s good news for Lake Macquarie lap swimmers, with Council deciding to open Swansea and Speers Point swimming pools early as the warmer weather settles in.
Both centres usually open their doors for the September School Holidays, but Council has brought forward the date following repeated requests.
“We’re so pleased to be opening Speers Point Swim Centre earlier in the season to help accommodate the high demand for lap swimmers,” said Swim Centre Team Leader, Callie Spurr.
“Our Learn to Swim classes will start again from next term.”
“COVID restrictions haven’t allowed for recreational swimming yet, but we’re constantly monitoring the situation and exploring options to allow recreational swimming as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.”
The re-opening of Swansea pool coincides with the completion of upgrades at the site.
There’s a new grandstand, revamped first aid room and the learn to swim pool has been repainted.
Swansea and Speer Point pools are open for lap swimmers, though there are limits on patron numbers.
While bookings aren’t essential, locals might want to call ahead to ensure there’s space.
