VIRGIN AIRLINES TO WITHDRAW TAMWORTH SERVICE FROM WEDNESDAY

The Deputy Prime Minister has responded to the news Virgin Airlines will withdraw its Tamworth service, from Wednesday.

Michael McCormack says the outcome was inevitable due to the airline’s current financial state.

It’s believed it could take the carrier up to five years to resume its Tamworth service.

Virgin went into voluntary administration earlier this year – it’s since been taken over by Bain Capital.

“This was always going to be a decision made by Virgin. Virgin came into Covid saddled with debts and they were always going to have to restructure, they were always going to have to look at their services, their staffing personnel and their ability to re-finance, because it was always going to be difficult for them.”

Tamworth Regional Council is currently negotiating with new airlines.
