FARMERS URGED TO GET VACCINATED FOR Q FEVER THIS SPRING
Hunter New England Health is urging farmers to get vaccinated for Q Fever.
This year, 20 people have been infected.
The fever can lead to chronic fatigue as well as damage the heart and other organs.
It’s caused by bacteria carried by animals.
“This time of year with people continuing to help with calving their animals, shearing and lambing as well as up close and personal with native animals like kangaroos and wallabies which puts people at significant risk,” says Peter Massey from Hunter New England Health.
Anyone who could be at risk should visit their local GP.
