HUNTER MAN CHARGED OVER FATAL CRASH NEAR RUTHERFORD
A Hunter man has been charged over a fatal crash which killed a young man near Rutherford overnight.
According to police a ute was travelling north on a remote stretch of Anambah Road just after 9pm, when it smashed into a guardrail.
The alleged collision occurred with such force, the front seat passenger was thrown from vehicle.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but sadly, the 29-year-old couldn’t be saved.
The driver, a 33-year-old man, underwent mandatory testing at John Hunter Hospital.
This morning he was charged with two serious serious offences; one of dangerous driving occasioning death and another of negligent driving occasioning death.
He’s been granted conditional bail and will appear in Maitland Local Court next month.
The Crash Investigation Unit is asking anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
