MACKNEY REMEMBERED AT MEMORIAL CARNIVAL

Lismore’s ‘mother of netball’ was remembered fondly today, by hundreds playing the sport she loved.

Teams from Brunswick to Woolgoogla contested the Marie Mackney Memorial Representative Carnival – valuable practice ahead of the state championships.

“It’s a preparation event for all of the associations, just to get some court time with their representative teams together, to make sure they’re ready to fire.”

“Obviously, with Marie’s passing, it felt appropriate that we dedicate today to her.

Ms Mackney was involved in the sport locally for 63 years, before passing away in January.

A netball, signed by the Queensland Firebirds team and donated by the Mackney family, served as the trophy.
