THORNTON WOMAN CHARGED WITH DRINK DRIVING

Boxing Day took an unfortunate turn for one man in Thornton, after an alleged drunk driver collided with his Toyota Hilux at speed yesterday morning.
The force of the crash was so great, the 50-year-old’s vehicle flipped onto its side.
He luckily escaped injury.
It’s alleged, the intoxicated female driver was backing out of a carpark, onto Thomas Coke Drive, when she hit the Hilux.
Emergency services were called to the scene soon after and Hunter Valley PD began investigating.
The woman was breathalysed and allegedly returned a high range reading of 0.189 – more than three times the legal limit.
She was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station, where her license was suspended.
She was charged with high range PCA and will appear in Maitland Local Court in early February.
In the busiest season of the year, police are urging drivers to take extra precautions.
Drink driving is especially dangerous as it puts both the driver, and others on the road, at high risk.
