GUNNEDAH RURAL HEALTH CENTRE TO BE OPERATIONAL WITHIN SIX MONTHS

Hunter New England Health says it’s shortlisted three applicants for the Gunnedah Rural Health Centre.

The health district took on ownership of the building in August and has since been looking for an external party to operate a GP service.

Expressions of interest have now closed, with the district saying it’ll take up to six months to make a decision.

“It’s great to see an expression of interest there, and interested parties, which is what this community needs… more doctors. But, what we can’t understand is why it’ll take six months if those expressions of interest are already there.”

The centre’s previous operator, MacKellar Care, ceased operation last January after it was unable to source a permanent GP.
