WOMAN ALIVE AFTER BEING STABBED IN ATTEMPTED MURDER

A woman is in a critical condition after being stabbed in a domestic-violence related incident in Jesmond last night.

At around 6.30pm, emergency services attended a unit on William Street, following reports a a 34-year-old woman had been stabbed by a man known to her.

Its alleged the pair were arguing before the 38-year-old man stabbed the woman.

She was treated by paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital where she underwent surgery.

Police arrested the man at the scene before taking him to the Mater Hospital for treatment.

He was then transferred to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with attempted murder.

He was refused bail and will appear at Newcastle Local Court on Sunday.
