SKIPPER RESCUED OFF YACHT NEAR NEWCASTLE

Officers have helped rescue a UK national from a sinking yacht off the coast of Newcastle.
Just after midnight on Friday, Marine Area Command was told about a 50-foot Beneteau yacht taking on water off the coast of Newcastle.
Port Stephens Water Police and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority found the yacht 135 kilometres off the coast, about 10am.
After a 26-hour operation, the vessel and 40-year-old man – were towed to Newcastle Harbour, arriving at 1.30am yesterday.
The skipper was escorted by police to a hotel in Sydney’s CBD, and will undergo mandatory quarantine.
The vessel remains moored at Newcastle Harbour.
