A man is in hospital after being washed off Newcastle’s breakwall by monstrous swell this afternoon.
It’s believed a large wave swept him across the breakwall, pushing him down onto the wall’s rocks, around 2:30pm.
A nearby lifeguard went to his aid, and alerted emergency services.
The man, in his 60s, was stretchered by paramedics to an ambulance, which has taken him to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
The extent of his injuries aren’t known, but he’s reportedly suffering bad back pain.
The surf around Nobbys Beach is reaching heights over 10 foot.
