A man has died in a single-vehicle crash in Lake Macquarie earlier today.
Just before 7am, emergency services were called to Freemans Drive at Cooranbong, after reports a vehicle travelling north left the road and crashed down an embankment.
When police arrived, they found the driver trapped inside the vehicle.
He died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be aged in his 40s.
Police set up a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the crash.
Anyone with dashcam footage is urged to come forward.
