MAN CHARGED AFTER BREAKING INTO HUNTER VALLEY PROPERTY
A 21-year-old man has led Police on a wild chase across the Hunter Valley after allegedly breaking into a rural property in Ellalong.
Four firearms, a black Dodge Ram and a white Audi A4 were stolen.
Officers noticed the stolen Audi A4 driving along Old Maitland Road at Cessnock late last night.
Police chased the car through several Cessnock streets, allegedly reaching speeds of 180km/h in a 80km/h zone, before the pursuit ended due to safety reasons.
The Audi was seen more than an hour later speeding through Abermain, Weston and Kurri Kurri.
Police later found the vehicle abandoned in Adams Street, Heddon Greta.
The dog unit and PolAir assisted officers in their search and arrested the man a short time later without incident.
He was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with nine offences, including:
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly,
- Break and enter house steal value > $60,000,
- Drive while disqualified,
- Drive recklessly/furiously/speed/manner dangerous,
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner,
- Possess/use prohibited weapon,
- Possess unauthorised firearm,
- Use, supply etc stolen firearm or firearm part, and
- Possess housebreaking implements.
Investigations into the break and enter are ongoing.
