NEW RESCUE DRONES TO BE DEPLOYED ON THE CENTRAL COAST

The Central Coast will soon receive three Westpac rescue drones as part of the first national approach to surf rescue using the innovative technology.

By giving surf lifesavers more eyes in the sky, it’s hoped they can spot rips and distressed swimmers, responding to those in need sooner.

In future, there will also be the potential to drop buoyancy devices to assist swimmers until help arrives.

The drones will be deployed at Avoca, North Avoca and Terrigal beaches this summer.
