CASES “IMPROVING” IN THE HUNTER, VIRUS FRAGMENTS IN LENNOX HEAD SEWAGE

The Hunter has recorded 10 new COVID cases, taking the region’s total to 130.

Of the new cases, five were from Maitland, three from Lake Macquarie and two are from Newcastle.

Nine are linked to previously reported cases, one is still under investigation.

Six were infectious while in the community, three infectious during their entire period and three for part of their infectious period.

There were no new cases recorded in the New England Region.

“Again, we are concerned but it is improving on recent numbers,” Deputy Premier John Barilaro said at Tuesday’s press conference.

NSW Health remains concerned about virus fragments detected at the Lennox Head sewage treatment plant, which serves 7,700 people.

“Although we have no news cases there, we are very concerned there may be undetected cases in the community,” Dr Jeremy McAnulty said.

Everyone in this area is urged to monitor for the onset of symptoms, and if they appear, immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

“Please, please come forward for testing if you’ve been in or live in Lennox Head,” Dr McAnulty said.
