POLICE ARREST NEWCASTLE TEEN DURING TWO-DAY ANTI-CRIME OPERATION
Police have arrested 70 people, including a teenager from Newcastle, as part of an operation targeting crime and anti social behaviour across the state.
Officers from Operation Colossus launched the two-day operation on Friday and proceeded to conduct 243 person searches and issue 219 move-on directions and 372 transport fines.
Around 8pm on Saturday, Police spotted two teenage boys running from a convenience store on Wharf Road at Newcastle.
Officers stopped one of the boys, a 14-year-old, and proceeded to find eCigarettes and a knife on his person.
The boy was returned home pending inquiries, however, Police later attended the store and discovered the boys had threatened an employee with a knife before stealing the eCigarettes.
Police went back to the boy’s home and arrested him.
He was charged with robbery in company and granted conditional bail to front a Children’s Court on January 17.
