FOURTH PERSON CHARGED IN RELATION TO COOKS HILL STABBING

Police have charged a fourth person in relation to the fatal shooting of a man in Newcastle earlier this year.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Darby Street at Cooks Hill just before 1pm on Thursday July 22, following reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police found a 40-year-old man inside, with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Despite their best efforts, he died at the scene.

The man has since been formally identified as Wesley ‘Wes’ Prentice from Rutherford.
Police attached to Strike Force Hibbard commenced inquiries and have so far charged three people – two men and a woman – over their alleged roles in the incident. They remain before the courts.
Following further investigations, police arrested a 35-year-old woman at Maude Street, Belmont, about 9.15am yesterday.

She was taken to Belmont Police Station, charged with accessory after the fact to murder and refused bail.

Inquiries are continuing – police urge anyone with information to come forward.
