DEVELOPMENT CONCERNS PROMPT EMERGENCY MEETING

Byron Shire Council will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow afternoon, to discuss the highly controversial West Byron housing development.

Residents are furious over plans to subdivide the site into 290 lots.

“It’s quite frankly horrific. It’s not at all Byron Bay. It’s cheap suburbia – houses crowded into small lots, almost no green space.”

“No one minds people building houses, there’s developers all over Byron doing stuff all the time, but this is just too much of everything, to really no benefit to our community.”

Critics argue the project would also damage the environment and worsen Byron’s traffic.

The Joint Regional Planning Panel will consider the proposal later this year.
