Episode 22 – DUNE SAND BUGGIES
In 1967, when the Hunter Valley Beach Buggy Club hit the sand, NBN News was on board.
The Stockton Sand Dunes, north of Newcastle looked like scenes from a Mad Max film, as buggies raced across the coast.
While many would frown on this now given possible damage to Aboriginal Middens and the environment, back then for some, this was simply fun.
Our cameraman held on literally for this fast-paced race over the sand, filming with a small clockwork 16mm camera.
Events like this one are moments in history, now looked at with a new perspective.
But they were another important moment filmed by NBN News, that shows where we were, and how we played, all those years ago.
