Residents across Northern New South Wales will soon be able to fly to more destinations from their local airport, thanks to a new budget airline.
Incoming carrier Bonza today revealing it will fly 25 routes to 16 destinations around Australia in what it has claimed is “the largest launch announcement in Australian aviation history”.
Newcastle will benefit from two new routes – including direct flights twice a week to and from the Whitsunday Coast.
Four flights a week will also launch between Newcastle and the Sunshine Coast.
Bonza will also introduce direct flights between Port Macquarie-Melbourne and Port Macquarie-Sunshine Coast.
With Coffs Harbour locals set to benefit from direct flights linking the Mid North Coast to the Sunshine Coast.
CEO of Bonza, Tim Jordan, says it means people living in regional areas will be able to enjoy more time at their destination and less cash getting there.
“We will give Aussies more options at ultra-low fares to explore their own backyard,” Mr Jordan said.
“With destinations ranging from Albury to the Whitsundays, travelers will now be able to fly, instead of impossibly long road trips as well as fly direct without a stopover in a major city.”
Bonza will be based out of the Sunshine Coast, while Melbourne Airport has been named the airline’s second base.
Flights are due to go on sale within the next two months, with Bonza’s first flight targeted for mid-year subject to regulatory approval.
The low-cost carrier will operate a fleet of brand new Boeing 737 Max aircraft, funded by investment company 777 Partners.
