MACLEAY VALLEY RATES TO RISE

Average household rates in the Macleay Valley will increase by close to a third over three years, if Kempsey Shire Council’s bid to raise them is approved.
Council will apply to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal for a variation of seven per cent above the pegged limit from July 2014.
It means the average rates bill would increase from $834 this year to 1,154 by July 2017.
Council wants the rise to combat a funding shortfall of $14.7-million a year.
